What to Expect & Frequently Asked Questions
Thinking about booking a shoot? Download my pre-booking ‘Shooting to Success Guide’ here to give you a little bit more information about what a shoot with me, might be like. This may also answer any questions you may have.
How Long Does a Session Last?
There is no time limit placed on the session. You can expect the session to last between 1-1.5 hours depending on the age of the children.
Newborn sessions can last between 2-3 hours, due to settling and feeding times so be prepared with snacks and drinks.
What Should We Wear?
I want you to be as prepared as possible, so prior to your session, you will be sent a session guide, with ideas about what to wear and how to get the most out of your session. I even include some colour palette suggestions with ideas of how to mix and match the whole family’s wardrobe in a coordinated but not matching uniform way!
I encourage you to bring props and outfit changes especially for the children, as it means you have a wide variety of images to choose from and also makes the session unique to you and your family. This doesn’t have to be complicated (it can be as easy as throwing on a hat or a wrap) and there are ideas in the guide to help you.
Often what you wear depends on your chosen location – light colours work well with light backgrounds (indoors on a white bed cover, at the beach, sandstone backdrops etc) and darker colours often work better in outdoor locations such as parks and greenery and urban locations etc.

Where Should We Hold Our Shoot?
In Studio
This is best for newborn shoots if you want a variety of props and backdrops. In studio is also best for studio style posing with backdrops. If the day is dark with not a lot of natural light then the studio is the best option so that we can use lights.
On Location
On location shoots makes for great images. Choose your favourite farm, urban or park location (or ask me for recommendations). Time is important to consider the light and the crowds and it is best done early morning or late afternoon for nice lighting. If the light is not soft enough there must be enough open shade that is not dappled. Remember to bring non-messy snacks plus water as well as baby wipes in case of emergency.
How Soon Do I Need To Book?
Sessions are held on Tuesday to Friday, in my home studio, Saturday afternoon and Sunday, in the morning and the afternoon – the actual session time depends really on the age of the child, their sleeping patterns, the chosen location, and of course the best lighting conditions. Sessions are typically booked 2-4 weeks in advance.
If you need the images for a particular date, keep in mind that you will receive you gallery to view 2 weeks after your session. Once you have decided on your images and your payment has been received, it will take 2-4 weeks to receive your products depending on what you have ordered.
